About Me

Hi, I’m Nic, and I’m sick.

Officially, my diagnoses include Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome, Hemiplegic Migraines, regular Migraines, Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome and Fibromyalgia.

Unofficially, my diagnoses include over-sharing, over-thinking, and over-caring, with a slight touch of talks-too-much-about-superheroes-and/or-my-dog.

I’m writing this blog because I have lived more than half my life as a Chronic (that’s with a capital C, y’all). There are so many misconceptions, misperceptions, and just plain frustrations when it comes to having an illness, especially one(s) that are invisible (but you look fine!) and lasting (yeah, this is never going away…). It’s hard to always answer “Okay,” when someone asks how I’m doing, because the answer is so much more complex. At the same time, it’s just as hard to answer with more detail, because not everyone has the patience or capacity to understand. I figure by writing about my life, maybe I can shed some light on what it’s like to be a twenty-something person with chronic illness, and maybe come out of my “Okay” shell a little bit.

I’m going to take a minute and say the standard disclaimers. I am not a doctor or medical professional. While I may relate my own personal experiences with medical treatments, it is for the purpose of sharing a story, not for giving advice, and should be taken as such.

Happy Reading!

I am impressed with how mature you are at such a young age and your wonderful outlook. you are the exception to my statement of “Was I ever that immature at that age?” I always wish you the best and will check back to read the good and the bad. Nice job Nic.

Wow. You are such an inspiration. As someone who struggles with mental health issues (which are probably going to be a lifelong problem), I can relate to a lot of what you write although it is certainly different. Thank you so much!

Hello, I hope you are having a lovely day. I just wanted to drop by to wish you a beautiful, blessed, a memorable holiday season. I hope you are able to take time to rest and reflect this holiday season. Take to reflect about all the ways you have grown as an individual, all you have accomplished, all the blessings in your life, and everything you have overcome the past few months. You, my friend have come so far. And you are an inspiration.
I pray you would have a flare free Christmas season. I hope that despite your pain you are able to enjoy this season of blessing. Cherish every moment with those you hold dear to your heart. Hold onto the Christmas spirit. I pray that this season would bless you with little to no pain, plenty of spoons, memories, joy, and love. “It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas.” Thank you for running this beautiful blog and for all you do. Merry Christmas!
